“… John 15:5, Apart from me you can do nothing, meant. I had a whole list of things I could do without God. And then one day, after a few years of internally wrestling with this issue, I came to the conclusion that when God said, ‘Apart from me you can do nothing,’ what he was really saying was, ‘Without me, you can do nothing of eternal significance.’ In other words, there are a lot of things I can do. But basically, they die. In the end, their value is minimal. They’re just daily actions that are going to live for a moment, and then they’ll have had their day, and we’ll all move on. But the things that have eternal significance—the things that live on in the lives of people for years—I can’t do those things by myself. I have to trust that what I am doing will be used by God. That changed my whole perspective on life.”
